Working with prices
Price history
What is recorded, how long it is kept, and how to get it out.
The app keeps a dated record of every price it has seen for every product. That includes prices it changed itself, prices you changed in the Shopify admin, and prices changed by any other app you have installed.
It starts the day you install
What it is for
- The figures on the home screen, on each product and on the Analytics screen.
- Working out the lowest price in the last 30 days, if you use the EU price rules.
- Undoing a batch of changes to the exact prices that were there before.
- Your own records. You can download it as a spreadsheet.
Downloading it
Download price history, on the EU price rules screen, gives you a CSV covering the last 400 days, which is the last month plus a year. It lists the price, the crossed-out price, the currency, and the dates each was in effect. It opens cleanly in Excel and Numbers, accented product names included.
Undoing changes
Every batch you apply is recorded on the History screen, named after the rule or sale behind it. Open one to see every price in it, the old price and the new one, and whether each changed, failed, was undone or was kept. Undo these prices puts the whole batch back.
If you have the EU price rules on, the old prices are checked again on the way back in. Your prices have moved on since, so occasionally a price that was fine last month no longer adds up, and the app tells you instead of writing it.
How long it is kept
Price history is kept for about 15 months, longer if you set a longer look back for the EU price rules. The newest price before that point is always kept, so a product whose price hasn't changed in years still has it on record. The record of price changes and of the EU price rule checks is kept for two years. The app's database is backed up, encrypted, and backups are kept for a month.
When you uninstall, Shopify asks the app to delete your store's data 48 hours later, and it does. The privacy policy has the details.
