EU price rules

Rules per market

Pro plan: give each market its own EU price rules, and how rules from several markets combine.

On the Pro plan, each of your Shopify markets can have its own EU price rules, for countries that ask for something different. On the other plans every market follows the settings on the Settings page.

Setting a market's rules

The Markets section of the EU price rules screen lists each market and whether it follows the shop-wide rules or its own. Edit a market to set:

  • How far back to look, from 30 to 365 days.
  • When a sale claims more than your prices support: lower the crossed-out price, or hold the change for you.
  • Products with less history than that: use the history the app has, use it and say when the product went on sale, or don't allow a sale until the history is complete.
  • Perishable product tags. Products with any of these tags are left out of the 30-day rule in that market, where the country allows it for goods that spoil quickly.
  • Whether shoppers in that market see the 30-day price.

One price, so the strictest rules apply

Your products have one price that reaches every market, so a price change can't be checked for Germany and for France separately. Whatever it sets is live in both. The app checks every price against the strictest rules across your markets:

  • The longest look back of any market. The lowest price over a longer period is never above the lowest over a shorter one, so it holds in every market.
  • Holding the change, if any market holds.
  • For new products, not allowing a sale comes first, then saying when the product went on sale, then using the history the app has.
  • A product counts as perishable only when every market treats it that way. While any market follows the shop-wide rules, no product is exempt.

Whether shoppers see the 30-day price is decided market by market, since hiding it in one market changes nothing in another. The line on your storefront uses the longest look back too, and says that many days in every market.

Leaving Pro
On another plan only the shop-wide settings apply. Your market rules are kept, and they apply again if you come back to Pro.

Currencies

The 30-day price shows to shoppers paying in your store's currency. Where Shopify converts your prices into another currency, or a market has fixed prices from a price list, the line stays hidden. The storefront block page explains why.
