Spend rewards

Order-wide spend tiers and a free gift the app adds to the cart.

Spend rewards apply to the whole cart instead of one product. You set spend levels with a percentage off the order, and optionally a free gift that the app puts in the cart once the cart reaches its level. Open Spend rewards in the app menu to set them up. They run on Shopify's own discounts, so they work on every Shopify plan.

Discount tiers

  • Add up to five tiers, each a minimum spend and a percentage off the order, for example 10% over $100 and 20% over $200.
  • Only the best tier the cart reaches applies. A $230 cart gets 20% off, not 30%.
  • Spend is the cart subtotal before discounts. The free gift and gift cards don't count toward it.
  • Amounts are in your store currency and convert at Shopify's rate for shoppers paying in another currency.

Free gift

Pick one product variant and a spend level. When the cart reaches it, the app adds one unit to the cart and Shopify takes its full price off at checkout. If the cart drops below the level, the gift comes back out. If a shopper removes the gift, the app leaves it out for the rest of their visit.

Only the added gift is free
The discount checks the cart on Shopify's side, so the gift is only free while the rest of the cart meets the spend level. A shopper who adds the same product by hand pays for it. If the gift ever arrives without its discount, for example because the campaign has ended, the app takes it back out instead of charging for it.
Keep the gift in stock
Shopify can't add a product that is sold out. Keep enough stock for the campaign, or set the gift to continue selling when out of stock.

Progress bar

With the progress bar on, the cart drawer and cart page show how much more the shopper needs to spend for the next reward, for example "Spend $18 more to get a free Trail Socks", and what they have unlocked once every level is reached. It needs the TB Bundles app embed turned on in your theme. To place it yourself, add an element with the data-sb-spend-bar attribute where you want it and the bar renders there instead.

Scheduling and combining

  • Give the campaign a start and an end in your store's time zone, or leave them blank to run from when you save until you turn it off.
  • Combine with bundle discounts is on by default, so a cart can get its bundle savings and the spend reward together. Turn it off and Shopify applies whichever saves the shopper more.
  • The campaign appears in Shopify Discounts as "TB Bundles spend rewards" followed by its name. Edit it from the app so the storefront and the discount stay in step.

Plan usage

An order that gets a spend reward counts toward your plan's sales allowance for its whole cart after the reward, leaving out gift cards. Bundle lines in the same order are counted once. Refunds and cancellations come back off the total, the same as for bundles.
